Eligibility:

• Applicant shall be a dependent child (natural, legally adopted, or stepchild) of a member in good standing with the Underground Construction Technology Association (UCTA).
• Applicant shall be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or post-graduate program at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school. This may include a graduating high school senior accepted by and enrolled in such a program for the upcoming academic year.
• There are no restrictions for the field of study or degree program.
• There are no restrictions on past recipients, meaning previous recipients are free to submit an application. However, a new/updated application must be submitted each year and no more than one application may be submitted per academic year and to only one chapter of the UCTA.
• At the time of submission, the applicant’s UCTA member sponsor shall be a resident of the metropolitan or service area of the respective UCTA chapter in which the application was submitted.
• Eligibility shall in no way be determined or evaluated based on age, sex, race, religion, or relationship to board members or officers of UCTA.

Selection Criteria:

Applications shall be evaluated objectively by a panel of no less than three but no greater than five persons designated by the sponsoring UCTA chapter. This may include board members or others as designated by the board to maintain the integrity of the review process.

The evaluation committee members shall have no direct interest in the awards, meaning no dependent, relative, or dependent of a co-worker may be included in the evaluation. If such an applicant is identified; that member shall be replaced by respective board as necessary to maintain a review committee of no less than three members.

Any and all information that may identify the applicant shall be removed prior to the committee evaluation.

Procedure:

• Applicant shall submit a completed application, signed by both the applicant and the applicant’s UCTA member parent/guardian.
• Applicant shall submit profile picture or headshot for potential publication in UCTA emails, publications, or other announcements. In the event the candidate does not wish for such an image to be published in any format, clearly note as such on the application.

• Applicant shall submit a discussion paper or personal essay prepared solely by the applicant. Paper shall be no less than one (1) page and no more than two (2) pages in length. The paper itself shall not mention any identifying information, and shall focus on or emphasize the reason for submitting for this scholarship but also contain, at minimum, the following:

• A summarized scholastic history, including school attended, degree program, declared major, hours completed, and cumulative GPA.
• A discussion of career goals, extracurricular activities, and community service or volunteer efforts.
• A summary of honors or awards received.
• Employment history or experience.

Note that failure to identify or include a GPA may result in a zero awarded for that criteria. Also, the applicant’s name and personal information should only appear on this application form itself. Please do not include any identifying information within the discussion paper. Failure to ensure anonymity within the paper may result in disqualification.

Applications must be received by 11:59 pm central time – NO applications will be accepted after this time.

• Friday, March 31, 2023 - Scholarship program is open via UCTA website
• Sunday, April 30, 2023 - Application due by 11:59 pm central time
• June 2023 - UCTA sends letters to recipients and non-recipients; winners that cannot attend luncheon will be sent award via mail
• Wednesday, August 2, 2023 - UCTA awards scholarship recipients in person at the Gulf Coast Chapter luncheon meeting
